February Mirror Image Event

Hi all!  Thanks for stopping by today for my inspiration in the Mirror Image Event with So Suzy Stamps, My Sweet Petunia, and The Ton!  All the details can be found on the So Suzy Stamps blog post.  There are lots of awesome prizes, so be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win!  Winners will be announced February 28th.

Here's what I came up with:

And a closer view of the flower:

A long time ago, there was a technique where you stamped and clear embossed a word background on the back of a piece of vellum, then stamped an open image on the front, and colored it from the back.  The words would show up in the image.  BUT back then, stamp companies actually manufactured those background stamps with the words backwards so that they would show through the vellum the correct way!  But now, with the mirror image stamp, you can get the same effect without having to buy a special stamp just for this technique!

I've included a very sped up video below explaining the process, but here it is in a nutshell:
  1. Ink up background stamp with Versamark ink and stamp onto the mirror image stamp using the MISTI.
  2. Lay piece of vellum over mirror image stamp and carefully brayer over it so that the ink transfers to the vellum.
  3. Cover with clear detail embossing powder and heat until melted.
  4. Stamp large, open image on opposite side of vellum using Versamark ink.  Cover with gold detail embossing powder and heat until melted.
  5. Turn vellum over so clear embossed words are up and color image using medium of choice.  I used watercolor markers.
And that's it!  To finish the card, I trimmed the image out with scissors, mounted on a card base, and stamped and embossed the rest of the sentiment in gold.  Here's the video:

There you go!  I hope you like this technique and will give it a try!  TFL!  ~Maureen
