Masking with the MISTI

Hi all!  I never used to like masking.  I never *did* masking, unless it was really simple, like leaves behind a flower.  But now that I have the MISTI, I’ve found that masking can actually be really easy and leads to a very satisfying project.  Like this:

CarnivalCupcakes2

What looks like a single stamp is actually made up using 4 stamps.  And it was really easy to do!  The hardest part is fussy cutting out the masks, and there are liquid masking fluids that you can use and not even have to cut masks, so it couldn’t be simpler!

I used the Carnival Cupcakes stamp set and the Carnival Toppers stamp set for the image, and the Starry Night set for the sentiment.  These are all from Mama Elephant.

I did all my masking and stamping on my MISTI with Memento ink.  Then I colored the image with Spectrum Noir pencils and put it back in my MISTI to overstamp with Versafine ink.  Finally I stamped the sentiment on the circle base using my MISTI and the hexagon template (you can see more about that HERE).

Here’s my video about how the MISTI makes masking easy:

And here’s THE LINK in case you can’t see the video above.

Favorite Peeps!

Hi all!  Today is feature day over at the Your Next Stamp blog and we’re asking you to Think Spring.  We’re actually having a special mini release of some new sets and dies! Here’s my card using the Easter Goodie Sentiments that are meant to coordinate with the Easter Goodies die set:

EasterGoodieSentiments1

The background was done with 4 different stamps from the Stripes and Stitching set (all lined up and stamped with my MISTI) and I used the Circles die set and the Piercing Holes die set for the focal panel.  The pierced holes from the die are the perfect size for stitching so I did a blanket stitch all the way around the circle.  The peep is from the Easter Goodies die set and was cut from pink felt.

Please visit the YNS Blog to see all the projects from the team and be sure to comment there for a chance to win a stamp set of your choice!

This is also for Freshly Made Sketches and SSS Wednesday Challenge – Add a little texture.  I hope you like it and TFL!

More Somebunny

Hi all!  I just can’t get enough of this adorable set!!  This card is for the MFT Sketch Challenge:

Somebunny2

I stamped a bunny from Somebunny in MFT Kraft ink, using my MISTI to get it perfectly lined up.  Then I colored it with Spectrum Noir pencils.  The hill was cut with a Mama Elephant die and I used the MISTI again to stamp the sentiment.  Finally, I added 2 little dotted clouds that are also in the set.

I hope you like it and TFL!

Congrats

Hi all!  Today I have another Fun Friday post for you.  Here’s our Color Challenge:

YNS Color Challenge 8

And here’s our Sketch Challenge:

YNSSketch-8

And here’s what I came up with when I combined the two:

WhatNotSentimentsFour1

I stamped the background with 2 shades of orange ink and the Mini Ink Splatter.

I cut a strip of white cardstock and stamped the 2 long edges with part of a stamp from the Stripes and Stitching stamp set and my MISTI.  Then I stamped the sentiment from Whatnot Sentiments Set Four in 2 parts, again using the MISTI.  I popped up the sentiment strip up on foam tape and that was that!

Please check out the YNS Challenge Blog for more inspiration and all the details to play along with us!  TFL!

Rainbow Hello

Hi all!  Today I have a fun rainbow shaker card for the Virginia's View Challenge – Shaker Cards:

RainbowHelloShaker

I cut the hello with my Zing using Make The Cut software.  I used Fun Foam for the center and hand cut that with a craft knife.  Then I filled the shaker with a rainbow of sequins from Avery Elle and  a little glittery mix that I’ve had forever.  I hope you like it and TFL!

Hello

Hi all!  Today I have a super simple CAS card:

Hello3

Once again, I used the Wonderful Words: Hello set from Papertrey.  Using my MISTI, I stamped the hello in white on Kraft cardstock, also from PTI.  Using Polychromos colored pencils, I colored the hello in shades of blue for an ombre pattern.  Then I put it back in my MISTI and overstamped the hello with Versamark ink and embossed with clear powder.

This is for the PTI Blue Ombre challenge.  I hope you like it and TFL!

I Dig You (Dog)

Hi all!  Today I have a card for a few challenges:

NineLives1

I used the Nine Lives stamp set and matching dies.  I also used a die from the Spring/Summer Scene die set and a heart from Little B.  The “dog” (I put quotes around it because it’s technically a cat stamp) was colored with Polychromos colored pencils.  And of course, I used the MISTI to help stamp everything!

And here’s the video I made of the process:

And here’s THE LINK in case you can’t see the video.  Here are the template sheets that are used in the video.  Thanks again to Brigit for that tip!!

Hello Sunshine

Hi all!  Here’s my card for today:

Hello2

I used the Hello mini stamp set, Summer Sunshine ink and cardstock, all from PTI.  This is for the Inspired by Maile Belles challenge.  I was inspired by THIS POST from Maile, specifically the treatment on the last card.

I used my MISTI to stamp the hello exactly where I wanted it, then cut it into 2 pieces.  I lined up the pieces with a little gap over the Summer Sunshine card base and stamped and embossed the word sunshine in white EP.  Then I foam mounted the 2 white pieces onto the card base.  I hope you like it and TFL!

Lucky to Know You

Hi all!  It’s time for another YNS DT Dare!  This month we have a 3-2-1 theme:  at least 3 gumdrops, 2 diecuts, and 1 stamp (or stamp set).  Here’s my take on the dare:

IrishHello2

I used White Sugar Gumdrops, Circles die set, Circles Stitching Marks die set, the horseshoe from the Irish Fun die set, and a sentiment from Irish Hello.

For the horseshoe, I die cut it out of black cardstock, smushed it into my Versamark pad, and embossed with silver EP.  For the lucky sentiment, I stamped it around the circle using the hexagon cardstock template and the MISTI.  If you’re not familiar with the technique, you can find a video on it HERE

You can check out the YNS Blog for all the DT samples.  TFL!

You Rock

Hi all!  Today I have a card for several challenges:

SparkleAndShine9

I used the Sparkle and Shine stamp set from Neat and Tangled and a Bermuda Bay inkpad from Stampin’ Up! for the watercoloring.

First I put down a piece of blue painter’s tape and watercolored the left side of the panel.  Then I stamped and embossed the gem in white EP.  Next, I watercolored over the gem, then stamped the sentiment over the gem.

This is for the following challenges:

I hope you like it and TFL!

YNS February New Release Hop!

Feb82015-hopgraphic

Hi all!   Welcome to my stop on the Your Next Stamp February New Release Hop!  If you’ve been following the hop, you should have come from Thanh’s blog.  If you just happened upon my post, please go back to Annette’s blog so you don’t miss any of the eye candy we all have for you today!  {links are at the bottom of this post}

I’m so excited for this release, and hope you will be, too!  I just love the dino set (and of course I also love the matching dies!) and the Little Darling Jasmine with her baby tiger are SO cute!!  I’m also a huge fan of the circle Stitching Marks dies – they add just the right bit of detail to a plain circle diecut!  Now let’s see what I’ve made for you today.

First up I have this card using the baby tiger from LD Jasmine:

LDJasmine1

I made the background by using a 1/4” grid under my card on a light table.  I stamped him, starting in the middle, and then went line by line, staggering the lines a bit so it wouldn’t look as grid-like.  I white embossed a sentiment from Jungle Critters and added it over the background.

For my next card, I got a little help from my MISTI stamping tool:

DinoMite1

Using the Dino-Mite! set, I did the white outline embossing technique that I showed in a previous video, but this time I did it with the MISTI, which is much easier!  Here’s a video of the whole project:

BTW, I also used the Circles die set and the new Circle Stitching Marks die set.

As always, we have a great prize up for grabs – one winner drawn from all the comments on all the blogs will get a $20 YNS gift certificate!!

And there’s a sweet sale for you, too!

Now it’s time to hop over to Karen's blog (link below), but don’t forget to leave a comment before you go!  TFL and Happy Hopping!

Sweet Birthday Wishes

Hi all!  Today I have a card made for the MFT Sketch Challenge and also the Color Challenge:

SweetBirthdayWishes2

I cut a panel of Wild Wisteria cardstock and sponged white ink on with the Cloudy Day stencil.  Next I die cut a balloon from the Balloon Stax from Limelight CS and stamped it with the Sheet Music Background and Limelight ink.  I ran them through with the big stitched rectangle die from Blueprints 13 and then tied a bit of Timeless Twine around it and glued it in a wavy pattern with some matte medium.  Finally I used my MISTI to stamp the sentiment in Blueberry ink to match the balloon string.  The whole thing was mounted on a white cardstock base.

I hope you like it and TFL!

YNS Sneak Peek

Hi all!  Our February New Release Hop is coming up, so today we have some peeks for you.  Here’s mine:

IrishHello1

I used the new Irish Hello set.  I cut the largest circle from the Circles Die Set and adhered it temporarily to a square of cardstock.  I then used my MISTI to stamp the sentiment around the circle and also stamped the shamrock and face in Memento black ink.  I colored him with Copics, then stamped just the outline with Versamark ink and embossed with Hero Arts white EP.

You can check out the YNS Blog to see all the blogs that have sneak peeks for you.  I hope to see you back tomorrow for the New Release Hop!  TFL!

Get A Load Of This!

Hi all!  It’s time for another Fun Friday post.  For the next 2 weeks we have this as our inspiration pic:

 YNS Color Challenge 7

And here’s our sketch:

YNSSketch-7

And here’s my take on the sketch:

KeepOnTrucking2

I used the Keep On Trucking stamp set and matching dies, and also the Spring/Summer Scene Die Set.  I stamped the truck on white cardstock with my MISTI using Memento ink, then colored with Copics, and overstamped with Versafine to get the tires extra black.  Finally I cut it out using the matching die and mounted it with foam dots on my background.

The background was made by cutting 3 different shades of brown cardstock with the 2 curvy landscape dies.  I roughed up the edges with my scissors and mounted them on the blue cardstock.  I added a couple of clouds with the Scene dies as well.

For the sentiment, I cut it apart <gasp!> and then stamped the 2 parts separately with my MISTI.

We hope you’ll play along with us!  All the details can be found on the YNS Challenge Blog.  Happy stamping!  ~Maureen

MISTI Templates

Hi all!  A super generous and genius stamper named Cyndie emailed me about templates she had generated that could be used with the MISTI using my stamping with octagons technique (which also works with other shapes).  She agreed to let me share them with you, so I’ll have links to all the different versions at the end of this post.

I’ve made 3 videos about them.  The first video talks about what the templates are and how to prep them for use:

The second video uses the acetate templates to figure out what shapes and sizes you want to work with:

The third video shows the cardstock template in use:

And here is where you can download the different templates:

Square

Pentagon

Hexagon

Octagon

Note - please download to your computer before printing. I've heard that trying to print directly from DropBox may not work.

I hope these links, templates, and videos work for you.  If you have any problems or questions, please leave a comment here or on one of the videos.  Thanks and Happy Stamping!

Viciously Cute

Hi all!  Today I have a card that was made for both the MFT Sketch Challenge and the Color Challenge (Blueberry, Wild Wisteria, Limelight, Sweet Tooth):

KittyCostume1

I used the retired set Kitty Costume from MFT and added a couple Blueprints elements and hemp cord onto my card.  She was colored with Copics except for her dress, which was paper pieced.

This is also for Loves Rubberstamps – Anything Goes and SSS Wednesday Challenge – Anything Goes.  I hope you like it and TFL!
